Rape

Lucknow : A six year old girl was sexually assaulted & killed by her neighbour in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur town, on Friday the Hindustan Times reported. Police has arrested the accused.

The accused is identified as 38-year-old Amjad, who confessed to the crime. The girl’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and the report is awaited, the police said.

As per the Hapur Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarvesh Mishra, the girl on Thursday left her residence to purchase something, at that time the accused lured her to his home, located barely 50 metres away from hers.

“The accused, a labourer, sexually assaulted her and then killed her. His wife and two children were not at home when the incident occurred,” ASP Mishra was quoted by the Hindustan Times.

On the girl not being back home for long period of hours, the family started searching for her and lodged a police complaint, on Friday.

After neighbours complained of an unpleasant smell from one of the houses on Saturday morning, the police team visited the spot. They found the main gate of the house locked. The police broke the lock and searched the house. They found the body of the girl stuffed in a trunk.

The accused was arrested from Trilokipuram locality, which falls under Hapur Nagar police station, following which he confessed to the crime, the police official said. The police have also claimed that he is a drug addict.

During the arrest, the police reportedly had to form a cordon around the accused to protect him from an angry mob of locals. “He could have been lynched, the public was extremely angry,” ASP Mishra was quoted by The Times of India.
