These States Have Extended Lockdown Restrictions Beyond April 15

The current lockdown was supposed to end on April 15, due to spike in cases seven states have already decided to extend it.

New Delhi| The decision on 21 days nationwide lockdown extension is yet to be made by PM Narendra Modi.

However, some states have autonomously declared the lockdown extension and few others have indicated their compliance to do so after meeting PM Modi via video conference on Saturday.

  1. Odisha- CM Navin Patnaik was the first among his counterparts to extend the lockdown till April 30 on Thursday.The decision was declared after a state cabinet meeting and Patnaik said his govt’s priority is to save lives over livelihoods.
  2. Punjab- Following the suit on Friday CM Captain Amarinder Singh said the state government had already decided in favour of complete lockdown till May 1 including a ban on public service vehicles.
  3. Maharashtra – On Saturday CM Uddhav Thackeray also declared a lockdown extension till April 30. Maharashtra has the most number of coronavirus cases in the country.
  4. Karnataka – CM Yediyurappa also announced clampdown extension in the state by two more weeks but added that it would come with relaxation for commercial activity in the agricultural and industrial sectors.
  5. West Bengal- CM Mamata Banerjee said Prime Minister Modi had announced the extension of shutdown till April 30 and she was in agreement with the PM. Some reports suggested she had announced an extension till April 30.
  6. Telangana- CM K Chandrashekar Rao has also announced lockdown extension by two more weeks on Saturday night. He said that the shutdown will be lifted in phases.
  7. Delhi – Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has indicated that he is in favour of extending the lockdown in the national capital till April 30.
  8. Rajasthan – CM Ashok Gehlot has said that protecting the lives of states’ residents was his govt’s top priority and a decision on an extension of the shutdown will be taken keeping that in mind.
