Supreme Court Says Allahabad High Court Will Monitor Hathras CBI Probe

The plea for transfer of trial out of Uttar Pradesh in the case would be considered later after the CBI probe is completed, a bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde said.

The Supreme Court said today the Allahabad High Court will monitor all aspects, including the CBI investigations and providing security to the victim’s family as well as the witnesses, in the alleged gang-rape and subsequent death of a Dalit girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, NDTV reported. “So far as the transfer is concerned, it is appropriate for the investigating agency to complete the investigation,” the court said.

The plea for transfer of trial out of Uttar Pradesh in the case would be considered later after the CBI probe is completed, a bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde said.

A batch of pleas of activists and lawyers had claimed that a fair trial was not possible in Uttar Pradesh as the probe has allegedly been botched up. The top court passed the verdict saying the CBI will file the status report in the case before the high court.

Lawyer for the victim’s family told the court that trial in the case be shifted out of Uttar Pradesh to a court in the national capital after completion of the investigation.

On September 14, 20 year Dalit woman was allegedly raped by four upper-caste men in Hathras. She succumbed to the injuries  on September 29 at Delhi”s Safdarjung Hospital during treatment.
