PM Narendra Modi has been informed about the lockdown extension in the state said Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Hyderabad: Telangana has extended the lockdown in the state to curb the highly contagious novel coronavirus till May 29, ten days after the lockdown is expected to end in the rest of the nation.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, after a 7- hour cabinet meeting on Tuesday evening, said: “People want lockdown extended. I have informed the Prime Minister about our decision.”
The state has 6 districts in the red zone, 18 in orange and nine in the green zone. Three districts have higher rates of infection. The condition of GHMC, Ranga Reddy and Medchal districts is “worrisome” said CM KCR.
“The Centre says shops can open even in the red zone. But we are not opening any shops in Hyderabad, Medchal, Suryapet, Vikarabad,” Chief Minister said.
Telangana has so far has 1,096 cases of COVID-19 including 628 discharged.

Earlier, Telangana had extended its lockdown till May 7 before the Central government gave a second extension to the national lockdown.
The total cases in India surged to 49,391 including over 14,000 cured/discharged or migrated and 1,694 deaths amid lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases topped 3,600,000 while the death toll crossed 257,000, as per the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.
