Thoothukudi Custodial Deaths: Murder Charge Included In FIR, One Tamil Nadu Cop Arrested

The Madurai bench of Madras high court had constituted its own team to investigate the shocking incident.

 

Tuticorin| The Tamil Nadu Cop accused in custodial death of Father and Son duo Jayaraj and Bennix was arrested today. Murder charges were filed against him and five other accused. The father and son duo were taken into custody by Thoothukudi police for keeping their shop open even past the Coronavirus curfew. The barbaric custodial death of the duo had sparked a nationwide outrage.

The case was later handed over to CBI . Sub Inspector Raghu Ganesh was arrested under relevant sections of Indian Penal code. The original FIR was also altered to include IPC Section 302.

The Madurai bench of Madras high court had constituted its own team to investigate the shocking incident. After the investigation and post-mortem report, it decided that there were enough grounds to charge the policemen accused in the custodial death cases by murder. It also asked the CB-CID to take charge of the matter until the CBI takes over.
