TMC Celebrates As Mamata Banerjee Leads The Polls

Bhabanipur : Its D-Day for Mamat Banerjee as on 3rd October the results of Bypolls will be out. The counting of votes has begun from 8 am. The Election Commission began counting of votes at 8am and the results are usually clear based on trends by the afternoon. There will be 21 rounds of counting of votes in the Bhabanipur constituency. Banerjee’s Trinmool Congress is now ahead with 12,400 votes at the end of two rounds of EVM counting, as per media reports. The Election Commission is yet to show the trends on its website.

Bhabanipur in south Kolkata cast votes three days ago in a byelection. Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee must win to continue as West Bengal’s chief minister.

Bhabanipur has twice elected Banerjee twice before: this time she is contesting against two BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal and the CPM’s Srijib Biswas. Banerjee, in West Bengal assembly elections earlier this year, dropped Bhabanipur to contest from Nandigram in East Midnapore district, but lost to her former confidant-turned-BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari by 1,956 votes.

Jangipur and Samserganj seats in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district and Pipli in Odisha are counting votes for by-elections as well.

Priyanka Tebriwal Writes A Letter To Chief Justice Of Calcutta HC

Tibrewal has written to the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court seeking preventive measures in connection with possible post-poll violence after results are declared. In the letter, Priyanka Tibrewal has sought strict orders to the Kolkata Police to take all precautionary measures to prevent any kind of violence post declaration of bye-election result. Referring to incidents of violence that took place in West Bengal following declaration of result of state assembly polls in May, Priyanka Tibrewal said, “Taking the ghastly scenario into reference, I, as a candidate for this by-election, humbly request you give a strict order to all the government enforcement department to take extreme precautionary measures so that no innocent life is lost, no sexual crime is committed, no public is left homeless, no incident of arson is recorded and we live in a peaceful environment come what may be the outcome on the 3rd October, 2021.”
