Speeding train kills two cubs of Tiger in Chandrapur

The two cubs of Tigress Avni went missing after she was shot dead were spotted near Vihirgaon village walking together.

Chandrapur| Days after the killing of the Tigress Avni popularly known as T1, two tiger cubs have been found dead on the railway tracks in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district. The cubs aged 8-10 months were crushed under a speeding train in the Junona range of forest in the district.

The Chief Conservator Forest for Chandrapur, Rama Rao said that the two cubs came under a speeding train that was traveling from Chandrapur to Gondia. He said further details are awaited.

However, it was confirmed that the two cubs are not of Tigress Avni who was killed after she was held responsible for several deaths in a span of two years. The two cubs of Avni who went missing were spotted near Vihirgaon village. Reportedly, the forest teams have reached the spot to catch them. According to the sources, the Cubs were seen walking together.

The killing of Tigress Avni had enraged the wildlife enthusiasts in the state. Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi too slammed the Maharashtra government. The matter escalated when a public fall-out ensued between Maneka Gandhi and Maharashtra Forest minister Sudhir Mungantiwar.
