Union Budget Session 2021: President Kovind Denounces Republic Day Violence, Hails Farm Laws

President Ramnath Kovind in his address to the parliament said that the three agricultural bills passed last year were supported by many political parties from time to time.

 

New Delhi| The budget session of Parliament started today. Earlier, President Ramnath Kovind delivered a budget address. Referring to the Republic Day violence, he said the insult to the tricolour at the Red Fort was unfortunate. He said that the constitution gives freedom of expression to all, but the same constitution also tells everyone to follow the law.

The President said that the three agricultural bills passed last year were supported by many political parties from time to time. These laws have been in demand for two decades. He expressed confidence that the government would follow the instructions of the Supreme Court regarding these laws.

“The government ensured one and half times MSP”: President

President said that the self-reliant India campaign will also strengthen Indian agriculture. MSP has been increased one and a half times by implementing the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission. “My government is doing record shopping on MSP, also expanding shopping centres. Along with old irrigation projects, modern irrigation technology is also being introduced to the farmers. Farmers are being connected with micro-irrigation,” President Kovind said.

“The country is proud of the martyrs of Galwan”

President Kovind also spoke about the Galwan valley clash in which 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives. He said, “At LAC, our jawans gave a resounding answer to those who challenged unity and integrity. In Ladakh, our Javans displayed bravery, restraint and prowess. 20 of our soldiers sacrificed their lives to defend the country in Galwan. The whole country is proud of you.”

“The rules of democracy should be followed”: PM Modi

Before the budget session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the media at the Parliament premises. He said, “This decade is very important for India’s bright future. This is a golden opportunity to fulfil the dreams of the freedom fighters at a fast pace. Make full use of this decade, keep it in mind and have a discussion. Brainstorm all kinds of ideas. Adhering to all the rules of democracy. We will take it forward keeping in view the aspirations of the people.”

“This budget a part of 4-5 mini budgets”: PM Modi

The Prime Minister said that for the first time in the history of India, in 2020, not one, the Finance Minister had to give 4-5 mini budgets in the form of separate packages. He added that this budget is a continuation in the series of mini budgets.

The Finance Minister will table the Economic Survey

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also presented the Economic Survey in the Parliament today. According to the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the first phase of the budget session will run till February 15. Meanwhile, the second phase will run from March 8 to April 8. The fifth session of the 17th Lok Sabha will have 35 sittings, 11 in the first part and 24 in the second part.

19 Opposition parties boycotted the President’s address

In opposition to the agricultural law, 19 parties boycotted the President’s address. These include Congress, Shiv Sena, SP, RJD, CPI (M), CPI, Trinamool, Kerala Congress (M), BSP, AAP, Akali Dal, NCP, JKNC, DMK, IUML, RSP, PDP, MDMK and AIUDF. These parties say that the way the Centre passed all the three agricultural laws in the Monsoon session was undemocratic.
