Government aims to invest Rs. 1 lakh crores in education sector by 2022: PM Modi

New Delhi | Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday while speaking at the ‘Conference on Academic Leadership on Education for Resurgence’ said that the Union government is aiming to invest 1 lakh crores in the education sector by the year 2022.

In a conference attended by Vice Chancellors and Directors of over 350 higher education institutions, PM Modi said, “Knowledge and education are not restricted to books.” We have to think of the philosophy of ‘Global Citizen and Global Village’,” he added.

“Ancient universities like Takashashila, Nalanda, Vikramshila emphasized on innovation with knowledge,” said, PM Modi, while focusing on the point that the purpose of education is to enable balanced growth of every dimension of a human being, which is not possible without innovation.

‘Conference on Academic Leadership on Education for Resurgence’ is in continuation of the efforts being made by the HRD Ministry for evolving an action plan for transformation of the higher education sector. The theme of the conference is to deliberate on the challenges facing the Indian education system and to work out a plan for a paradigm shift both in terms of achieving academic outcomes and also in regulation of education.
