Unnao case: Ex- BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar charged with rape under POCSO Act

New Delhi | A special Delhi court has charged ex- BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar with rape and abduction under various sections of POCSO Act in Unnao rape case.

Delhi’s Tees Hazari court has also charged Shashi Singh, his accomplice, for abduction.

Charges have been framed against Kuldeep Singh Sengar under IPC sections 120b, 363, 366, 109, 376 (i) and 3 and 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO).

The apex court had earlier ordered the court to try Kuldeep Sengar.

Supreme Court last week had transferred all four cases related to Unnao rape case in Uttar Pradesh to Delhi.

The 19-year-old rape survivor was 17 years old when she faced assault at the hands of the BJP MLA and his accomplices.

She met with an accident a couple of weeks ago when a truck rammed into the car she was travelling in, killing two of her aunts and leaving her lawyer and herself critically injured.

The rape victim is also currently undergoing treatment in AIIMS Delhi.

The family of the victim has alleged that jailed ex-MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar had orchestrated the accident from inside the prison.

A piece of new information came to light, when it became known that the Unnao rape victim had written a letter to CJI Ranjan Gogoi, claiming that Sengar and his followers were consistently threatening her and her family to take back the case.

The BJP had expelled the four-time legislator from Bangarmau in Unnao district this month after the Supreme Court took a strong view of the rape and allegations against the legislator. He was suspended from the party in 2018 when he was imprisoned for the case, and the whole matter became national.

The Opposition hit out at the Uttar Pradesh government for trying to cover up the matter or “protect” its MLA.

The high court ordered CBI to take over the case. They found that Sengar and his brother assaulted the father of the Unnao rape case survivor and framed him in an Arms Act case.

The CBI has booked 10 people for murder, including Sengar, who is already in jail.

Supreme Court has asked CBI to complete investigation into all 5 cases within 45 days.
