Uttarakhand Forest Fire: 63 Hectares Area Burnt, Jim Corbett National Park Under Threat

Uttarakhand minister Harak Singh Rawat said that the forest fire has been reported from 964 places in the state. “The weather has made the situation more challenging.”

 

The forests fire has been raging in the hill state of Uttarakhand. It has flared up in 45 new forests in the last 24 hours. As much as 63 hectares of the forest area has been burnt in the massive fire. Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has sought help from the Centre to deal with the crisis. Considering the urgency and seriousness of the issue, the Centre has sent two helicopters and NDRF personnel to Uttarakhand.

There is a risk of the fire reaching the Corbett National Park. By Saturday night there was a fire in the forest near Mohan of Ramnagar Forest Division. This led to the burning of the forests of Savalde, Haldua and Kashipur ranges of the Terai West Forest Division. These areas are adjacent to Corbett Park.

Fire is raging in 964 locations

Uttarakhand minister Harak Singh Rawat said that the fire has been reported from 964 locations in the state. “The weather has made the situation more challenging. Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat and I are keeping a close watch on the matter. We will try to extinguish the fire with a helicopter,” he said.

More than 12,000 forest personnel deployed to overcome the situation

At the emergency meeting, Chief Minister Rawat directed the forest officials and district officials not to approve the leave of their employees until the situation is brought under control. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, more than 12,000 forest personnel have been deployed for the fire fighting operation. Statistics from the forest department show that since October 1, 2020, there have been 1,028 incidents of wildfires on 1,359 hectares. These incidents have been seen in Nainital, Almora, Tehri Garhwal and Pauri Garhwal districts.

Himachal: 2 days of forest fire in Karsog

In the Darol forest of Pokhi Beet of sub-division Karsog, due to the massive fire in the forest for the last two days, trees of cedar, Bahn, pine and other species have been burnt on 30 hectares of land.
