West Bengal : Babul Supriyo joins TMC

Kolkata : Former Bhartiya Janta Party leader Babul Supriyo today joins Mamta Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress. Babul Supriyo’s this move comes month after he left BJP.

“Today, in the presence of National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee and RS MP Derek O’Brien former Union Minister and sitting MP Babul Supriyo joined the Trinamool family,” the TMC said in a tweet.

Upset at being dropped from the Union Council of Ministers by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the two-term MP had earlier announced that he will resign as MP and quit politics.

Nearly a month ago, Babul Supriyo had told reporters that Home Minister Amit Shah and Nadda had spoken to him, and he has taken a final decision after thinking over their suggestions.

Mr Supriyo is the fifth BJP leader – the four others were BJP MLAs – to join Trinamool Congress after Ms Banerjee’s party won the assembly election in May and retained power.
