Ninety-eight Indian pilgrims have died in Saudi Arabia during Hajj this year, the government announced on Friday, attributing the deaths to “natural illness and old age.” So far, 1,75,000 Indian pilgrims have participated in Hajj. Last year’s death toll was 187. Earlier, Arab diplomats reported 550 total deaths, mostly due to extreme heat in Mecca.
