Deputy Chairman Harivansh invoked Rule 256 and suspended AAP MP Sanjay Singh for the remaining week of the session.

Mumbai: The monsoon session saw a stormy day as 19 MPs were suspended yesterday and the house was adjourned. This morning the session in both houses was wiped out as opposition protests continued. Additionally,  the chair also suspended AAP MP Rajya Sabha Sanjay Singh as he was sloganeering, tearing papers, and throwing them upon the chairs. Sanjay Singh is dormanted for the remainder of this week under Rule 256 by Deputy Chairman Harivansh. The two houses will convene at 2 p.m.

When the House convened in the afternoon yesterday, Sanjay Singh and other members shouted slogans calling for an end to the issue of at least 28 people who died due to illegal or toxic alcohol consumption in the  Botad district in Gujarat. When the president asked him to go back, he tore up some papers and threw them at the chair.

After the suspension, Singh immediately responded on his Twitter handle saying that though he has been removed from the house, he will still seek an answer for the deaths due to liquor in Gujarat.

He tweeted with the clip of the chair announcing his suspension, “Modi ji may have suspended me but I will continue to fight and seek answers for 55 toxic alcohol related deaths in Gujarat. i am in the house now.”

The opposition MPs were raged and staged a protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi Statue in the Parliament complex against the suspension.

TMC MP Sushmita Dev, who was suspended along with 18 other MPs on Tuesday called the action “unfair” and said it was clear that the BJP-led government has no response to inflation. “If Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was unwell then Prime Minister Narendra Modi should answer the questions of the opposition,” she said. She also criticized the GST’s imposition on basic articles and the lack of discussion about it.
