‘Ask What BJP Has Done’: Congress’ Tharoor Hits Back At Rajeev Chandrasekhar

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor responded to BJP’s Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s accusations of non-performance by asserting that his ‘ignorant rival’ should first inform voters about the saffron party’s accomplishments for the constituents during its 10-year tenure in power.

Tharoor emphasized, “I will turn the question around and ask what the BJP has done for Thiruvananthapuram in its 10 years in power. Even promises made on the floor of the Parliament have not been honoured.”

Tharoor questioned, “They make promises left, right, and centre, and they never fulfil them. That’s the BJP’s track record. Why should we trust any new promises from this party?”. However, he agreed with one statement by Chandrasekhar, emphasizing that the election wasn’t about individuals but ideologies.

“It’s a battle between ideologies. We know where we stand. Does he know where his party stands? Can he justify the communal agenda we’ve seen the BJP promoting? I’d like him to answer that,” Tharoor stated. He also mentioned plans to release a 70-page report detailing his achievements for the constituency over the last 15 years.

He asserted, “I believe we can enlighten our ignorant rivals about what true performance entails,”. Tharoor’s comment came after Union Minister and BJP Lok Sabha candidate Chandrasekhar hinted at the contest being between “politics of performance” and “15 years of non-performance.

Chandrasekhar expressed his belief that the people of Thiruvananthapuram understood the dynamics of the contest well and confidently anticipated that it would be evident in the election outcome. He stated, “Certainly, people are sensible. They know what the politics of performance is, who represents the politics of performance, and who represents 15 years of non-performance.”

Refusing to term the electoral battle in Thiruvananthapuram as a battle between individuals, the BJP leader emphasized his belief that it would mirror the people’s decision to propel the country’s ten years of development into the next five years.

“This isn’t a duel between Tharoor and NDA. I don’t see it as a matter of personality. It’s not about English-speaking skills or anything,” Chandrasekhar remarked, subtly mocking his Congress rival, known for his eloquence.
