Violence erupted in Bangladesh as student protesters clashed with security forces and pro-government activists. This took place over a government job quota system. At least 39 people died, with hundreds injured in Dhaka and other cities. Police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse protesters who responded with sticks, rocks, and by torching vehicles and establishments.
