Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee meets PM in Delhi, there is speculation on the meeting after Partha Chatterjee’s arrest.
Mumbai: Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi today in Delhi. The agenda of the meeting is for the issues faced by the nation. The discussion will likely revolve around GST under the centralized systems his government has long requested. Bengal has frequently accused the BJP-led center of delaying TPS charges to states, especially those run by the opposition.
In June, Amit Mitra, chief adviser to the Prime Minister of West Bengal, claimed that the center had failed to release 27,000 crores of in-app charges to the states.
However, the meeting sparked widespread speculation days after Partha Chatterjee was arrested by the Law Enforcement Branch. The minister, who was arrested after piles of cash were found at the home of his assistant Arpita Mukherjee, was known to be a close confidant of Ms. Banerjee.
On August 7, the Bengal CM will attend a Niti Aayog meeting chaired by PM Modi. During the meeting of the Governing Council of the ECB, topics related to agriculture, health and the economy are mainly discussed.
Ms. Banerjee had skipped the Council meeting last year. At this year’s meeting, it should address concerns related to non-payment of GST dues and issues with federalism.
