“BJP Taught Lesson In 2002, Permanent Peace In Gujarat,” Says Amit Shah

Amit Shah alleged, “During the Congress rule in Gujarat (before 1995), communal riots were rampant”

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that with the support of Congress, anti-social elements indulged in violence in Gujarat. Those elements were “taught a lesson” in 2002, they stopped such activities and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) established “permanent peace” in the state he added. He made these remarks while addressing a rally in Mahudha.

In 2002 parts of Gujarat witnessed violence.

Addressing a rally in Mahudha in support of BJP candidates ahead of the next month’s Assembly elections, Shah alleged, “During the Congress rule in Gujarat (before 1995), communal riots were rampant. Congress used to incite people of different communities and castes to fight against each other. Through such riots, Congress had strengthened its vote bank and did injustice to a large section of the society.”

Shah asserted that the 2002 riots in Gujarat were caused by criminals who had developed a habit of using violence as a result of the extended backing they had gotten from Congress.

“But after they were taught a lesson in 2002, these elements left that path (of violence). They refrained from indulging in violence from 2002 till 2022. BJP has established permanent peace in Gujarat by taking strict action against those who used to indulge in communal violence,” the Union minister said.

Shah thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for removing Jammu and Kashmir from the scope of Article 370 and claimed that the Congress was opposed because of their “vote bank.”

Earlier this week, Amit Shah took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is currently leading Bharat Jodo Yatra in Maharashtra, over his absence from the election campaign in Gujarat and said that Congress has nothing in Gujarat, that’s why “Rahul Baba” is not coming to Gujarat for campaigning and is roaming in other places.

While addressing an election rally in Tapi district of Gujarat, the Home Minister further said that ever since the BJP government came to power in Gujarat, there has been development in every field. “There is a BJP government in Gujarat since 1990 and the Congress is saying that the work of the Congress speaks for itself. When it is not in power since 1990, then what is the work of Congress? Congress misleads the people. The party which has not been in power for ages, then of what work is it talking? Congress should be ashamed. Ever since the BJP government came to power in Gujarat, there has been development in every field,” he said.
