CDS Chief Anil Chauhan rubbishes Pakistanâs claims of having taken down six of Indiaâs jets
For the first time, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Anil Chauhan has admitted something. He said that India had lost fighter jets during the four-day feud with Pakistan, after India launched Operation Sindoor. This was the worst military escalation between India and Pakistan.
He did not share the number of jets that India lost saying that it was not important. But he said that we should rather focus on the tactical lessons that we learnt from the conflict.
He said this while speaking before Bloomberg TV in Singapore at the Shangri-La dialogue. The General dismissed Pakistanâs claims of having taken down six of Indiaâs jets. CDS Chief Chauhan rubbishes these claims as “absolutely incorrect”.
General Chauhan said, âWhat is important is not the jet being down, but why they were down. What mistakes were made â that is important. Numbers are not.”
CDS Chief Chauhan said that India had understood its mistake. India, in correction resumed its long-range operations, with precise targeting in just two days.
âThe good part is that we are able to understand the tactical mistake which we made, remedy it, rectify it, and then implement it again after two days and flew all our jets again, targeting at long range,” the General then added.
He called out Pakistanâs majorly-imported weapon systems. These included defence systems supplied by China. He said that they âdidnât workâ.
General Chauhan also said that India successfully launched precision strikes deep into Pakistanâs territory. These went through airfields protected by defence air systems and travelled distances up to 300 km.
He said that the conflict did not come much close to triggering a nuclear war, when asked so.
The General said, âI personally feel that there is a lot of space between the conduct of conventional operations and the nuclear threshold.”
The CDS Chief also said that communications between Pakistan and India were constantly open throughout the conflict.
He concluded that Pakistan’s actions will determine the durability of the current ceasefire, which is well held. He added, âWe have laid clear red lines.”
