Centre Probes Apple Supplier On Married Women Ban Report

The Centre has asked Tamil Nadu for a detailed report following a Reuters investigation that revealed Apple supplier Foxconn’s practice of rejecting married women for assembly jobs at an iPhone factory. Citing the Equal Remuneration Act of 1976, the Ministry of Labour and Employment emphasized the prohibition of gender discrimination in recruitment. The ministry has directed the Labour Department of Tamil Nadu and the Regional Chief Labour Commissioner to provide factual reports on the matter.
