Chandigarh Mayor Manoj Sonkar, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, resigned ahead of a scheduled Supreme Court hearing on alleged vote-counting irregularities. Sources suggest the BJP asked for his resignation. The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing the BJP of tampering with postal ballots in the January 30 mayoral poll. The BJP’s Sonkar won against AAP’s Kuldeep Kumar. Videos of the presiding officer purportedly tampering with ballots circulated on social media.
