Chandigarh Mayor Manoj Sonkar Resigns Before Supreme Court Hearing

Chandigarh Mayor Manoj Sonkar, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, resigned ahead of a scheduled Supreme Court hearing on alleged vote-counting irregularities. Sources suggest the BJP asked for his resignation. The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing the BJP of tampering with postal ballots in the January 30 mayoral poll. The BJPโ€™s Sonkar won against AAPโ€™s Kuldeep Kumar. Videos of the presiding officer purportedly tampering with ballots circulated on social media.
