Congress Demands Unconditional Apology From LOP Adhikari

The West Bengal Congress has officially filed a police complaint against Suvendu Adhikari, a BJP MLA and the Opposition leader, for his recent inappropriate remarks against Rahul Gandhi. The party is also insisting on an “unconditional apology” from Adhikari.

“I have consistently heard about Rahul Gandhi for the past four days. Who is he? A ***** He said a few days ago that he puts coal pieces on a stove to make tea in the morning…The fact that coal can be put on a stove was beyond my knowledge or understanding,” Suvendu Adhikari was quoted saying by India Today.

Suman Roy Chaudhuri, the secretary of the Bengal Congress, and Abhishek Banerjee, the spokesperson of the party’s state unit, complained to the Raiganj police station. Adhikari’s comments have sparked controversy.

Responding to reporters’ questions about the Sunday incident, Chaudhuri expressed deep disappointment, mainly because Adhikari holds the position of Leader of Opposition in Bengal. Chaudhuri emphasized the significance of respecting political opponents and voiced concern over using derogatory language against such a prominent figure as Rahul Gandhi.

Chaudhuri demanded an immediate and unreserved apology from Adhikari within 24 hours. He warned that if the apology is not forthcoming, Congress will escalate the matter to the court.
