Controversial Mumbai Metro 3 Trial Run To Be Conducted Today

Meanwhile, the hearing on tree felling in the Aarey forest matter is expected to be heard today. A bench lead by justice UU Lalit will be hearing the matter. 

The trial run of Mumbai’s Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro line 3 will be conducted on Tuesday at Sariput Nagar in Aarey area, according to an official.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his deputy Devendra Fadnavis will be present during the trial run.

The Metro line 3- a 33.5 km underground route- will connect Colaba in south Mumbai with the western suburbs. The construction of the Metro car shed at Aarey, a forested land adjoining the Sanjay Gandhi National Park was one of the first decisions reversed by the Shinde-Fadnavis government.

Like the last 8 Sundays, this week also Save Aarey protesters had gathered at the Aarey’s picnic point to protest against the metro car shed that the Maharashtra goverment has decided to build on the location.

Leaders from the Sharad Pawar lead Nationalist Congress Party had joined the movement to support the protest. Ex MLC and current working president of the NCP(Maharashtra) while speaking to HW News said,

“It’s not a question of Devendra Fadnavis vs Thackeray, it’s a question of Mumbaikars, if they destroy the lungs of Mumbai we will not allow it. She Said.

Vidya Chavan further said,” Trees should not be cut here, if not today once the builder lobby comes in, the trees will eventually be cut.”
