In early trade on Monday, Dalal Street witnessed a significant downturn as benchmark stock market indices plummeted. The S&P BSE Sensex dropped over 800 points, with the Nifty experiencing a similar sharp decline amid heightened volatility.
The market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies fell by approximately 6 lakh crore. Broader market indices also mirrored the negative sentiment. By 10:15 a.m., the Sensex was down 547.99 points at 73,696.91, while the Nifty50 declined 162.75 points to 22,356.65.
Factors contributing to the downturn included Iran’s drone attack on Israel, concerns over oil price increases, adverse US inflation data, and pre-election apprehensions. Additionally, Asian stocks’ decline further dampened domestic market sentiments due to fears of escalated conflict in the Middle East.
