Death Toll Rise To 61 In Kallakurichi Hooch Tragedy

The death toll from the consumption of poisonous liquor in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district has reached 61, with 118 people receiving treatment. The incident, which occurred in Karunapuram village on June 18, prompted the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Commission for Women (NCW) to take suo moto cognizance. The NHRC issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Director-General of Tamil Nadu Police, demanding a detailed report within a week. The NCW also formed a three-member committee to investigate the deaths of six women in the tragedy.
