On Thursday, the Election Commission of India issued a show-cause notice to Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi, for his “panauti” remark directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The election body has requested a response from Gandhi by 6 pm on Saturday regarding the alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct in Rajasthan, which is scheduled for polls on Nov 25.

During a campaign rally in Balotra, the Wayanad MP connected the term “panauti” (harbinger of bad luck) to Modi, implying his presence as a factor in India’s loss in the Cricket World Cup final in Ahmedabad.
Responding to Gandhi’s comments, the BJP strongly criticized him for using derogatory language against the Prime Minister and promptly approached the EC, urging swift action.
