RJD’s national vice president, Shivanand Tiwary, received a one-year prison term from a Patna court in a defamation case filed by Bihar minister Sanjay Kumar Jha five years ago.
The court, presided by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sarika Bahaliya, also fined Tiwary ₹10,000.

Jha, a key figure in the Nitish Kumar government, filed the suit in 2018, objecting to Tiwary’s remarks about his close ties with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The court granted provisional bail to Tiwary, allowing 30 days for an appeal. Nitish Kumar has recently realigned with the RJD, suggesting a potential leadership transition to Tejashwi Yadav.
