Goa CM Pramod Sawant Accused of Corruption in Mineral Funds Grant, Palekar demands investigation based on RTI query reply

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is facing accusations of corruption over a grant of 15 crores rupees to a nursing institute from the District Mineral Foundation (DMF). The allegations stem from an RTI application filed by one of the AAP MLAs, which revealed that the institute has connections to the Chief Minister’s office.

AAP Goa chief Amit Palekar has come all guns blazing against the CM and demanded that Sawant answer these allegations and come clean about his involvement in the decision to grant the funds. He has also called for an investigation into the matter.

Sawant has denied any wrongdoing, stating that the decision to grant the funds was made in a transparent manner and that he did not influence the process in any way. However, the RTI application has raised questions about the impartiality of the decision, given the institute’s links to the Chief Minister.

The DMF is a fund that is set up by mining companies to help communities affected by mining operations. The fund is intended to be used for development projects in these communities.

The allegations against Sawant have sparked outrage among some sections of the Goan public, who are demanding that he step down from his post. The Chief Minister has maintained his innocence and has said that he will cooperate with any investigation into the matter.
