Gold Worth 4.3 Kg Caught At Hyderabad Airport

Hyderabad: Smuggled gold worth 4Kg was confiscated at the Hyderabad airport on Friday, in two separate instances,  the customs department said.

In one of the incidents, the Air Intelligence Unit officials on July 21 apprehended two male passengers who returned from Dubai for attempting to smuggle 3.591 kg of gold by concealing it in undergarments and their rectum. The value of the gold is estimated to be ₹ 1.87 crores.

In the other case, a male passenger was nabbed on Thursday while trying to smuggle gold by hiding it inside an exhaust fan and electric juicer. The net weight of the yellow metal was 740 grams, according to a customs official.

 In a similar incident, Customs at Varanasi Airport seized gold worth Rs 1.2 crore of foreign origin from a passenger who landed at the airport from Sharjah today.
