Lakhimpur Kheri: The co-founder of Alt News, Mohammed Zubair, was sent to 14-day judicial custody by a Lakhimpur Kheri court in Uttar Pradesh in a case filed against him in September last year. The court will hear Zubair’s bail plea on July 13.

Mohammed Zubair was presented before the court via video conferencing from Sitapur jail and sections 153B, 505(1) (B), and 505(2) were added to the FIR against him. Zubair was arrested by Delhi Police in June for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through one of his tweets.

“Mohammed Zubair was produced in the court of the Mohammadi additional chief judicial magistrate through video conferencing. The prosecution had sought police custody, a plea countered by Zubair’s counsel. The court sent him to 14-day judicial custody,” Assistant Prosecuting Officer Avadhesh Yadav said.

“The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Mohammadi in Kheri district has issued the warrant against Mohd Zubair, which was served by Kheri police on Friday,” Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Arun Kumar Singh was quoted saying  by news agency PTI on Saturday,

Earlier, the Supreme Court had on Friday granted interim bail to Mohammed Zubair in a case registered by the Uttar Pradesh Police.

However, Zubair would continue to remain in custody because of a case filed by the Delhi Police which had initially arrested him over charges of hurting religious sentiments.
