Karnataka Home Minister Parameshwara confirmed the arrests. While speaking to the reporters he said “Three people have been arrested. The investigation is ongoing to identify who they are and why they did it,”

Shortly after the incident Munirathna, while speaking to media, alleged that this was a part of a larger conspiracy to assassinate him. He said, “When I arrived at the venue, there were 100 policemen who told me that they were here to protect me as they were tipped off that I could be killed,”. He accused the attackers of using “acid-laced eggs” and throwing stones at his vehicle, calling it an “attempt to murder.”

Munirathna further stated that “This was an attempt on my life”. “Nearly 150 people were brought to finish me off. If not for my supporters and the police, I might not have survived. He claimed that D K Shivakumar, D K Suresh, and Congress leader Kusuma were involved in this conspiracy”.

The Bengaluru police later said that security had been heightened at the venue as the event was a scheduled public program. According to the police, Munirathna was advised to get into his car directly for safety reasons at the venue but he chose to walk as it was only 50 meters, during which the incident occurred.

The MLA was taken to KC General Hospital for medical tests. Munirathna was at the hospital till midnight. The police are awaiting a formal complaint to proceed further into the matter.

This marked Munirathna’s first public appearance since being released from Bengaluru Central Prison. The MLA had been arrested on serious charges. This includes allegations of rape and caste-based abuses against a former BBMP corporator.

A Special Investigation Team SIT has filed a charge sheet in connection with the case. These allegations have led to public scrutiny, and Wednesday’s incident has only added another layer to controversies surrounding the BJP MLA.

Meanwhile, Munirathna claimed this attack was politically motivated. He linked it to his ongoing feud with Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and his brother D K Suresh. This comes after he joined the BJP in 2019.

The BJP MLA alleged that the brothers were seeking revenge after Congress candidate Kusuma lost to him in the 2023 assembly elections in Rajarajeshwari Nagar. Munirathna said, describing the alleged attack as an act of political vendetta “I will be killed for sure, and it will be because of a woman Kusuma, the wife of late IAS officer D K Ravi,”.

However, the Congress leaders were quick to dismiss Munirathna’s accusations. Shivakumar Speaking from Belagavi, said he was preparing for the centenary celebrations of the 1924 Indian National Congress session. Calling the allegations baseless he said, “I have no knowledge of the incident. These claims are a drama to shift public attention,”.

D K Suresh, his brother, echoed similar sentiments. He called the accusations fabricated and alleged that Munirathna was trying to “threaten” Congress workers in his area.

BJP state president B Y Vijayendra strongly condemned the attack. He said “Such an attack is not just an insult to Munirathna, but the entire state. Just because you (Congress) are in power, you are attacking people. An attack on a public representative is highly condemnable”. He further warned that the BJP would hold the state government accountable if the culprits were protected.

Following the attack, Munirathna’s supporters staged a protest demanding strict action against the perpetrators. The BJP MLA is also expected to file a formal complaint at the Nandini Layout police station.
