People rose up in protest on Tuesday night, while some gripped with fear due to the terror attack in Pahalgam
The Himalayan setting between Pakistan and India sees a few attacks that both countries do on each other. But this time it was tourists who were attacked and many lives were deprived and many were left injured.
By Tuesday night, a huge number of residents in that region gathered together to protest against the onslaught which was done on so many people. The crowd of people were holding signs and candles and were chanting slogans. Some of the signs read: โStop Terrorismโ.
Other signs also called out for the resignation of Union Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah. Tourists were also hurriedly trying to leave the region as Airports put more flight in the schedule.
Counter-terrorism expert and author Ajai Sahni, said, โIt is an implicit sort of contract between the local population and the militant groups that the tourist trade will not be undermined because almost everyone in Kashmir, especially in the Valley, is directly or indirectly dependent on the tourism industry.โ
The Resistance Front, a militant group that is little-known said on social media that they had planned and undertaken the attack and that they were discontent because of โoutsidersโ who had inhabited in the region and effected a โdemographic change.โ It provided no evidence, and CNN cannot independently verify its claim.
V K Birdi, inspector general of police in Kashmir, told CNN, that authorities had been aware that the group had alleged of it holding responsibility, but said they were still busy in the process of investigating the matter. As of Wednesday, authorities were carrying out medical examinations on the victims, and arranging planes to transport the bodies and their families.
The attack prompted greater assignment of security personnel to the region all around the valley and in other tourist attractions too.
