Maharashtra: NCP's Chhagan Bhujbal

Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office to Bhujbal at the Raj Bhavan

The Mahayuti government swore in Senior Nationalist Congress Party leader, Chhagan Bhujbal, as a Cabinet minister. This comes on Tuesday, ahead of the civic body elections, which will be held later in the year.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs of the state, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar were present. Ministers and senior leaders representing all three ruling parties, which are the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP were present.

Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office to Bhujbal at the Raj Bhavan.

After the oath, Bhujbal said, “All is well that ends well.”

Notably, Bhujbal was miffed in the aftermath of being denied a Cabinet berth after 2024 Maharashtra Assembly polls.

Bhujbal is an MLA from Yeola, which is in the district of Nashik. He has held important positions as a minister in the cabinet. Additionally, he has served as the deputy chief minister in different Maharashtra governments. Earlier, he had served as the fifth deputy CM of Maharashtra from 1999 to 2003.

Bhujbal started his career with the original Shiv Sena in the 1960s. This was when the regional movement, which advocated for Marathi speakers’ rights was at its strongest.

Eknath Shinde said that Bhujbal has served earlier as a minister. He then said that his experience would be very useful for Maharashtra’s government. He also said that Devendra Fadnavis would check and decide a portfolio for the leader.

Shinde told ANI, “Chhagan Bhujbal has served as a minister before as well. He has led many departments. He is an experienced minister.”

Shinde then said, “He is also a Shiv Sainik of Balasaheb Thackeray. He started from the Shiv Sena.”

Shinde concluded, “He started from corporator, mayor and went on to become an MLA and a minister. He has held many positions. Today, he has taken the oath again. I want to congratulate him. His experience will benefit the government. The portfolio will be decided by the Chief Minister.”

Chandrashekhar Bawankule, who is also a Maharashtra minister and a BJP chief welcomed Bhujbal’s inclusion into the state’s Cabinet.

“Chhagan Bhujbal is known as an OBC leader, and including NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal in the cabinet will strengthen the Maharashtra government. Chhagan Bhujbal will play a major role in fulfilling the resolve of ‘Viksit Maharashtra’,” Bawankule had earlier said.
