Mamata Banerjee Slams Media Over Malicious Campaign After TMC Minister’s Arrest

Mamata Banerjee
Mamata Banerjee said that anyone who has done a crime should be punished but the agencies should not be used to smear political parties.

Mumbai: After the TMC leader Partha Chatterjee was arrested in connection to a recruitment scam by the ED, the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday slammed the media for running malicious campaigns against the TMC. Referring to the recent remark made by CJI N.V. Ramana, she too denounced the media trials.

Speaking at a program of Titagarh Wagons she said, “When you run a large institution, mistakes can happen.  If someone has made a mistake and it is legally proven, he must be punished. But I am against any malicious media campaign. The media plays the role of the kangaroo (court).”

She added that anyone who has done a crime and is proven guilty should be punished but the agencies should not be used to smear political parties.

Ms. Banerjee claimed that businessmen, as well as opposition leaders in the center were also “threatened by agencies at the behest of the ruling BJP”.

In an apparent reference to Tuesday’s suspension of 19 opposition Rajya Sabha members, she said: “If you protest anything these days, you will be suspended.” Of the suspended MPs, seven are from Trinamool and six from the DMK. Talking about the 2024 elections, she said, “I can talk about the numbers and where they will come from. However, I am confident that the BJP will not come to power.”

Milind Narvekar knows every Shiv Sainik, Their strengths and weaknesses. Narvekar initially used to petty duties at Matoshree later he was appointed Uddhav Thackeray’s PA. Narvekar was responsible for setting up the schedule for Thackeray’s meetings and political tours.

After Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s revolt, the Thackeray camp often criticized Eknath Shinde and his MLAs with abuses.

However, keeping political differences aside, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Uddhav Thackeray’s P. A Milind Narvekar,  during Ganeshotsav.Although the reason for the visit was said to seek the darshan of lord Ganesha, many people were surprised by this move.

For the past few days, talks were going on that Milind Narvekar, the secretary of Shiv Sena’s Thackeray group and close associate of Uddhav Thackeray, would leave the Shiv Sena (UBT) and join the (B) Shiv Sena.

Both Uddhav Thackeray and Narvekar had rubbished those discussions. However, now recently on Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s birthday, Narvekar extended wishes to Mr. Shah on the eve of Diwali.

Coincidentally, It so happened that the wishes came days after  Narvekar had won the MCA i.e. Mumbai Cricket Association membership election with a record number of votes. After which the debate was reignited whether Milind Narvekar is indeed joining hands with his former colleagues.

Milind Narvekar knows Shiv Sainiks, Their strengths, and their weaknesses. Narvekar, initially used to petty duties at Matoshree later he was appointed Uddhav Thackeray’s PA.

Narvekar was responsible for setting up the schedule for Thackeray’s meetings and political tours.

Many leaders, who switched sides from ShivSena had alleged that Narvekar used to act as a gatekeeper and did not allow senior leaders to meet Uddhav Thackeray.

Earlier last month, Champa Singh Thapa who resided in Matoshree for the last three decades with Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray joined Balasaebanchi Shiv Sena.
