Margaret Alva Files Nomination As Opposition Candidate For Vice Presidential Polls

New Delhi: The Opposition’s Vice Presidential choice Margaret Alva on Tuesday filed her nomination papers for the Vice Presidential polls which are scheduled to take place on August 6. She was accompanied by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, CPM leader Sitaram Yecury, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and CPI leader D Raja.

Ms. Alwa has served as the governor of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa, and Uttarakhand.

The NDA’s candidate is former West Bengal, governor Jagdeep Dhankar.

PM Narendra Modi also congratulated him on being the NDA’S vice presidential candidate he said  “Kisan Putra Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji is known for his humility. He brings with him an illustrious legal, legislative and gubernatorial career. He has always worked for the well-being of farmers, youth, women, and the marginalized. Glad that he will be our VP candidate.”Mr. Modi tweeted.

Mr. Dhankar was elected to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from the Kishangarh Constituency in the Ajmer district between 1993 and 1998.

Meanwhile, the voting for the presidential elections took place yesterday and the results will be out on 21 July.
