The Central government has notified the regulations for the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA). This action follows Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement committing to the law’s implementation ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The CAA facilitates Indian citizenship for non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.
