Mumbai: At the cemetery connected to St. Michael Church in Mahim, more than a dozen tombstones and the Crosses built above the cemetery was erected and vandalized. The Catholic community is incensed by the cemetery’s deliberate desecration/defiling.

According to the community, there has been an increase in the tendency of destroying Christian icons, which is affecting the community’s religious beliefs.

Previously, Residents of Vile Parle (West) first became aware of the vandalism on December 15, 2013, when they saw a Holy Cross at the LIC Building Compound had been damaged.

While the same Holy Cross on S.V. Road in the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) property had been vandalised once more by unidentified miscreants on July 14, 2014.

On September 4, 2016, the Holy Cross in Juhu, Mumbai, was discovered to have been vandalised, and a gold robbery from the Juhu Koliwada Mother Mary statue was also recorded.
A Holy Cross located at Carter Road, Bandra (West), was discovered to be destroyed on January 27, 2017.

Additionally, on April 12, 2017, a Holy Cross was vandalised at Mumbai’s Santacruz West neighborhood’s Gaothan Lane, directly across from Super Bazar. While on March 5, 2018, a shattered Holy Cross was discovered in Dadar West, close to Indu Mills.
