Nashik Court Summons LOP Rahul Gandhi In Defamation Case Over Remarks Against Savarkar

The complainant in the case alleged that he had watched Rahul Gandhi’s press conference and speech in 2022 in which he made remarks on Savarkar, alleging that they were defamatory.

A magistrate court in Maharashtra’s Nashik has issued a summons to LOP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case over his alleged comments on  V D Savarkar.

“Considering the submissions made before me and considering the record, it appears that the statements made by the accused against patriotic person prima-facie seem defamatory. There are sufficient grounds to proceed in the case,” the order passed by an additional chief judicial magistrate in Nashik on September 27 read.

The complainant in the case alleged that he had watched Rahul Gandhi’s press conference and speech in 2022 in which he made remarks on Savarkar, alleging that they were defamatory.

The complainant said Gandhi in his remarks, had said: “Savarkar is BJP and RSS Jin” and that “with a folding hand Savarkar prayed for release and later on promise to work for the British Government.” The complainant claimed that these remarks  were aimed at creating a loss of reputation and defaming Savarkar.

Voting for Jammu and Kashmir’s third and last phase in ongoing. Around 39 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise across 40 assembly seats – 24 in the Jammu region and 16 in Kashmir. The final phase will decide the fate of 415 candidates.

According to ECI, as of 11 am, a voter turnout of 28.12 per cent has been recorded. Bandipore is at the top with the highest turnout of 28.04%.

Meanwhile, The Voting for the 90-member legislative assembly in Haryana will be held on October 5, and the results for both the states will be out on October 8.
