According to reports earlier this morning, a team of NIA officials arrested two individuals related to the case. While they were returning to Kolkata, they faced the attack.

On December 3, 2022, an explosion occurred, destroying a house with a thatched roof in Bhupatinagar, resulting in the deaths of three individuals.

Last month, the NIA called eight Trinamool Congress leaders for interrogation regarding their involvement in the blast.

The TMC alleged that the BJP orchestrated the NIA’s action. The central investigative agency summoned the eight individuals to meet its officers after they failed to attend previous summons, which required them to visit the NIA office in New Town on March 28.

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh accused the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of being responsible for the action taken by the NIA.

Ghosh claimed that the BJP has provided a list of TMC leaders from Purba Medinipur district to the NIA, which intends to arrest them. The attack on the NIA team occurred two months after a group of Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials was assaulted while conducting a raid at the residence of Shahjahan Sheikh, a suspended local TMC leader closely associated with arrested state food minister Jyoti Priya Mallick, in connection with the multi-crore ration distribution scam in West Bengal. Central force personnel accompanying the ED team were also targeted in the attack, resulting in three ED officers requiring hospitalization.
