New Delhi: With water resources Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at the helm of the ship, BJP this Friday launched its latest 14-member campaign committee for the un-named candidate the party will back for the upcoming presidential polls.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) , according to sources, will look to announce their nomination for the presidential race this week before Prime Minister Narendra Modi departs to Germany for the G7 summits.

The voting that is scheduled for July 18, will receive the last nominations on 29th this month. The counting is set to happen on the 21st of July, 3 days before President Ramnath Kovind’s tenure ends on the 24th of July.

The panel that further includes Ministers, G Kishan Reddy, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Sarbananda Sonowal, Arjun Meghwal and Bharati Pawar will take steering of the committee to gain nationwide support for the candidate. Some other names include Tarun Chugh, DK Aruna, Rituraj Sinha, V Srinivasan, Sambit Patra and Rajdeep Roy.

The committee will be hosted by Vinod Tawde and CT Ravi who will act as co-conveners.

The polls are calculated through the electoral college that includes the votes of MLAs and MPs. Each vote from each MLA will depend on the state’s population and the total number of assembly seats.

The total strength therefore comes up-to 10,86,431. According to which the BJP-led NDA will be 13,000 votes short.

In the 2017 presidential polls, the BJP-led did not have the numbers to cut the deal, but was backed by oppositions from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), YSR Congress and BJD.

Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao of the TRS this time around will fetch votes for the opposition.
