Shariful Islam, the alleged attacker of Saif Ali Khan, will remain in police custody till January 29. A local court in Mumbai on Friday extended his custody for five days after the police argued they are yet to recover crucial evidence regarding the attack.
Days after being discharged from the Lilavati hospital, Actor Saif Ali Khan recorded his statement with the Bandra police on Thursday.
According to reports, Recounting the horrific incident, Mr Khan said that he and his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, were in their bedroom on the 11th floor of the Satguru Sharan building when they heard the scream of their younger son Jehangirโs nanny.
Awakened by her screams, Saif and Kareena rushed to their sonโs room, where they saw the alleged attacker. While the nanny โ Eliyama Philips โ was scared and screaming, Son Jehangir was crying, Mr Khan told the police.
Saif then tried to stop the attacker; it was then when he stabbed the actor several times on his back, neck, and hands, reports suggest. Despite being injured, Khan pushed the intruder inside the room, paving the way for Ms Philips to flee with Jehangir and locked him in.
Reports further suggest the intruder escaped through the air-conditioning duct and fled down the stairs.
Police have recovered Sharifulโs face cover from the room of Mr Khanโs younger son Jehangir, where the actor and the intruder had clashed.
Days before, Eliyama Philips had also recorded her statement with the police. According to reports, Philip told the police that she was awakened by some noises around 2 am on January 16. She saw the bathroom door open and the light on and assumed that Kareena Kapoor Khan was checking on Jahangir.
Jehangirโs nanny said: โI went back to sleep, and soon, I felt something was wrong. So I woke up again and saw a man come out of the bathroom and go into the boyโs room. I quickly got up and went to Jehangirโs room. The attacker then put his finger near his lips and said, โDonโt make any noise; nobody will go out,โ Ms Philip said. โWhen I rushed to pick up Jehangir, the man, armed with a wooden stick and a long Hexa blade. Ran towards me and tried to attack meโ, she said.
โI tried to block the attack by putting my hand forward, but the blade hit me near the wrists of both my hands and on the middle finger of my left hand,โ she said. โAt that time, I asked him, โWhat do you want?โ. He said, โI want money.โ I asked, โHow much do you want?โ He said in English, โone croreโ,โ Ms Philip has said in her statement.
Hearing Ms Philip scream, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan rushed out of their room. When Mr Khan asked the intruder what he wanted, he attacked him with a wooden object and the hexa blade, Ms Philip said.
โSaif Sir somehow managed to get away from him, and we all ran out of the room and pulled the door of the room,โ she added.
