Chief Justice of India said that a person holding constitutional office should act responsibly
Supreme Court Opposes BJP’s Kunal Shah’s Remarks
On Thursday, the Supreme Court criticized BJP Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah for the remarks he made about Colonel. Sofiya Qureshi. The Top Court also did not intervene in the FIR, which was filed against the Minister.
This comes shortly after the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered the filing of an FIR against Vijay Shah for giving “hate speech”. The minister then approached the court for relief after the case was filed against him.
Shah has sought to stay on the High Court order in relation to his statement on the basis that what he said was “misinterpreted”.
When the matter was brought forth, Chief Justice of India, BR Gavai, who was heading the bench said, “A person holding constitutional office is expected to act responsibly. What kind of statements is he making? Is it appropriate for a minister to make such statements?”
Kunwar Vijay Shah’s Counsel Defends Him
Kunwar Shah’s consel said that his statements were hyped and presented wrongly by the media.
“He has expressed remorse, and his statements have been misunderstood,” the counsel said.
“Nothing will happen to you in a day. You know who you are,” said the Supreme Court, rejecting his plea.
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the plea brought forth by Shah on Friday.
Shah, who is the tribal Welfare Minister of Madhya Pradesh made a statement about Colonel. Qureshi shortly after the ceasefire, which was held between both countries.
He said, “They [terrorists] made our sisters widows, so Modi ji sent a sister of their community to strip them and teach them a lesson.”
“They undressed our Hindu brothers before killing them. We responded by sending their own sister to hit them in their houses,” he added.
Meanwhile Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that Shah’s comments were “shameful” and “communal” and he called on the Prime Minister to act
