SC Will Grant Bail To Siddique Kappan

In the next three days, Siddique Kappan will be released, after being produced before the trial court.

New Delhi: Chief Justice Of India UU Lalit Oon Friday said that Supreme Court will grant bail to Kerala Journalist Siddique Kappan. He was arrested on October 2020 under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). At that time he was on his way to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh where a Dalit woman had died after allegedly being gang-raped.

In next three days he will be released, after being produced before the trial court. The apex court asked Kappan to be in Delhi for the next six weeks and mark his presence with the local police station at Nizamuddin every week.

After he is done visiting the police station for six weeks he will have to travel to Mallapuram in Kerala. There he shall report each week to the local police station. The court said that before being released he has to deposit his passport, and has been restrained from misusing his liberty by getting in touch with the witnesses.

Earlier, UP Government had opposed his bail and told the top court that Kappan had deep links with the PFI and was part of a larger conspiracy to “incite religious discord and spread terror”.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had rejected his bail application earlier. After this rejection he moved the SC.

On August 23, the Allahabad High Court granted bail to Mohammad Alam, one of the persons travelling with Kappan and booked under the UAPA.
