A fire erupted in a nine-story residential tower housing 750 apartments in Sharjah’s Al Nahda area, resulting in five fatalities and injuring 44 individuals in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Among the deceased were two Indian residents, confirmed by family acquaintances and social workers.
Michael Sathyadass, an Indian sound engineer employed at DXB Live in Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC), was one of the Indian victims. Recognized for his pivotal role backstage during concerts featuring renowned artists like Bruno Mars and AR Rahman, Sathyadass’s brother paid tribute to him on social media.
The second Indian casualty was a 29-year-old woman from Mumbai, recently wed in February. Tragically, the couple had just moved into the Al Nahda building following their marriage. The woman’s husband remains in critical condition at the hospital. The Indian Consulate General assured support to the affected families, who have since arrived in the UAE.
Authorities are actively investigating the fire’s cause, while social worker Ashraf Thamarassery suggested the possibility of the Indian woman being buried in the UAE. DXB Live, Sathyadass’s employer, lauded his dedication and pledged assistance to his family, emphasizing his lasting contributions. Amid ongoing investigations, support efforts continue for the families affected by this tragic incident in Sharjah.
