Supreme Court Verdict On J&K Special Status Today

The Supreme Court is set to decide on the constitutionality of the Centre’s move to revoke Article 370, granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, the five-judge Constitution bench responds to petitions challenging the move. The petitioners argue that unilateral scrapping by the Centre is invalid, citing the transfer of powers to the J&K legislature after the Constituent Assembly’s dissolution in 1957. The court questions the process and permanency of Article 370.
