Trinamool Congress Biggest Beneficiary From Future Gaming, BJP, Congress

On Thursday, the Election Commission released a new electoral bond dataset, including alphanumeric numbers. These numbers can help match the bond purchasers with the political parties that received the funds.

The Trinamool Congress received around Rs 540 crore in electoral bonds from Future Gaming, making it the top recipient of donations from ‘Lottery King’ Santiago Martin, as per SBI data released by the Election Commission.

Future Gaming emerged as the largest purchaser of electoral bonds, buying bonds worth a total of ₹1,368 crore.

Santiago Martin’s company provided ₹509 crore to Tamil Nadu’s ruling party, DMK, nearly ₹160 crore to Andhra Pradesh’s YSR Congress Party, ₹100 crore to the BJP, and ₹50 crore to the Congress. The two parties in Sikkim collectively received less than ₹10 crore from the firm.

The second-largest donor is Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering, which has contributed Rs 966 crore to various parties, including the BJP, Telangana’s Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), and the DMK.

Qwik Supply, the third-largest donor to political parties using electoral bonds, purchased Rs 410 crore worth of bonds between 2021-22 and 2023-24. It allocated Rs 395 crore to the BJP and Rs 25 crore to the Shiv Sena.

The BJP is the biggest beneficiary of the electoral bonds scheme, with total donations exceeding ₹6000 crore.

According to the data, the BJP emerged as the primary beneficiary of funds from major corporate entities, which include Vedanta, Bharti Airtel, Muthoot, Bajaj Auto, Jindal Group, and TVS Motor.

The Vedanta group donated to the BJP, the Congress, the Biju Janata Dal of Odisha, and the Trinamool Congress. At the same time, Bharti Airtel contributed to the BJP, the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Shiromani Akali Dal of Punjab, the Congress, and the Janata Dal (United).

Muthoot donated to the BJP and the Nationalist Congress Party, while the Bajaj group contributed to the BJP and the AAP. Apollo Tyres donated to the Congress, and Keventers contributed to the BJP and the Congress.

Industrialist Lakshmi Niwas Mittal donated to the BJP, while Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar Shaw contributed to the BJP, the Trinamool Congress, and the Congress.

Rungta Sons Private Limited donated to the Congress, BJP, Trinamool Congress, and Sikkim Krantikari Morcha.

Pharmaceutical companies Piramal Capital and Sun Pharma donated to the BJP, while Torrent Pharmaceutical Limited contributed to the BJP, AAP, and the Congress. Natco Pharma also provided donations to the BJP, the Telugu Desam Party, the Trinamool Congress, and the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS).
