Ranchi: A 70-year-old man from Jharkhand, Baset alias Barsa Murmu, reportedly succumbed to anxiety just hours before his son, Bhaktu, was rescued from the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand.
Trapped in the tunnelโs collapse, Bhaktu and 40 other workers were evacuated on Tuesday night. Murmu, a resident of Bahda village, had been distressed since learning about the tunnel collapse on November 12. He passed away at 8 am on Tuesday, approximately 12 hours before Bhaktuโs rescue.
Local officials have not confirmed the cause of death, but it is suspected to be a heart attack. Murmuโs family described his anxious wait for information about his sonโs rescue, and his mother, Piti Murmu, has been in shock since then.
