Uddhav Thackeray halted the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro 3 corridorโ€™s construction after assuming the position of Chief Minister in 2019 and created a team to explore for alternate properties. Aarey Colony was classified as a reserve forest by the Aghadi administration.

After the Eknath Shinde government overruled the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi administrationโ€™s decision to move the Metro 3 vehicle shed out of the Aarey colony, former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray launched a full-scale attack on the Shinde administration on Friday.

The Shiv Sena leader requested the metro car shed to arrive at Kanjurmarg during his speech at the Sena Bhawan in Mumbai, expressing concerns that the governmentโ€™s decision may result in the Aarey forests being gradually opened for development.

โ€œDonโ€™t make Mumbaikars feel angry because of me. Donโ€™t make any changes to the metro shed idea. Donโ€™t toy with the environment of Mumbai,โ€ the former Chief Minister said.

The underground metro project was delayed as a result of a dispute between the previous government and the Centre over the location of a proposed car depot in Kanjurmarg, Mumbai.

Thackeray slammed the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs throughout his speech and argued for the right to recall for the voters.

โ€œThose who created the new government appointed an alleged Shiv Sainik as the CM. 2.5 years ago, I said the same thing. Shiv Sena and BJP will each split the CM office for a half-term, as agreed upon by Amit Shah and I.โ€ According to him, everything that occurred today would have been done with respect.

Thackeray questioned why the BJP did it now rather than when the Shiv Sena was formally allied with them in the state and at the federal level.

After splitting with the BJP, Mr. Thackeray agreed to collaborate with ideologically opposite parties Nationalist Congress Party, and the Congress to form a government and keep the BJP from taking power.

Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray, addressed the citizens of Maharashtra for the first time since his exit as Maharashtra Chief Minister and took potshots today at the Bhartiya Janata Party, which has formed a new government with Shiv Sena rebel Eknath Shinde.

โ€œBJP made so-called Shiv Sainik the Chief Minister,โ€ Uddhav Thackeray said, a day after Eknath Shindeโ€™s oath.

โ€œHad Amit Shah kept his word given to me, there would have been a BJP chief minister in Maharashtra now,โ€ he added.

โ€œThe BJP has backstabbed me for power. I had told Amit Shah earlier as well that there should be a Shiv Sena Chief Minister for 2.5 years (during the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance). Had they done this earlier, there wouldโ€™ve been no Maha Vikas Aghadi,โ€ said the Shiv Sena chief.

Mr. Thackeray was referring to the reason why he parted ways with Bhartiya Janata Party his partyโ€™s 25-year alliance partner after they won the Maharashtra assembly polls.

Mr. Thackeray had alleged the BJP, especially Union Home Minister  Amit Shah, of reneging on a promise of a rotational chief ministership in which the two parties would split the five-year term equally.

After splitting with the BJP, Mr. Thackeray agreed to collaborate with ideologically opposite parties Nationalist Congress Party, and the Congress to form a government and keep the BJP from taking power.

Mr. Thackeray resigned on Wednesday after most of his Shiv Sena MLAs joined rebel Eknath Shinde, bringing down the Maha Vikas Agadi coalition government.

Eknath Shinde was sworn in yesterday, with former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as his deputy. One of the first decisions he took was to reverse the Thackeray governmentโ€™s decision to shift a controversial metro car shed project from Aarey, which is called the green lungs of Mumbai.
