UP Urban Local Body Polls: 19.7% Turnout Till 11Am, CM Yogi, Mayawati Among Early Voters

The voting for the first phase of urban local body elections began in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday at 7 am. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was among the first ones to cast his vote. According to the State Election Commission, voters in 37 districts will vote in the first phase of the polls to elect 7,593 representatives, including 10 mayors and 820 corporators, reported India Today. 

The Uttar Pradesh State Election Commissioner had announced urban local body polls would be held in two phases – on May 4 and May 11, while the counting of votes would take place on May 13. These elections, across 760 urban local bodies, would be held for 14,684 posts in UP – including 17 mayoral seats and 1,420 councilor posts.
