New Delhi: UP Police on Wednesday afternoon was chasing a mining mafia called Zafar and got to know that they are hiding in the Thakurdwara area of ​​Moradabad. When the police raided five and a half hours in the evening, Zafar started firing. In retaliation, the police also opened fire. When the Zafar thought that they have been surrounded by the police so they crossed the border and entered Uttarakhand. The UP Police team also reached there and in cross-firing BJP leader and the chief of Jaspur Block, Gurtaj Bhullar’s wife Gurpreet Kaur was killed. BJP leader alleged a larger conspiracy and called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the incident.

The team of UP Police also reached Bharatpur where the mafia was hiding. ADG Rajkumar of Bareilly Zone told that Mining Mafia hid at the farmhouse of BJP leader Gurtaj Singh in Bharatpur. 

The UP Police personnel were in casual clothes and not in uniforms. In some videos, 10-12 people are seen entering Bhullar’s farmhouse with pistols and there were policemen in plain clothes. Initially, Bhullar’s family mistook the policemen. However, the Moradabad police team introduced itself and asked to hand over the 50 thousand prize mining mafia who had entered the farmhouse.

Bhullar’s family started demanding to call the local police. Meanwhile, the local people started protesting.

While arguing with the family, police officials identified the mining mafias. Cross firing started and at that time BJP leader Gurtaj Bhullar’s wife Gurpreet Kaur was shot in the crossfire.

After the incident, the family caught four people and handed them over to the local police. Angry locals blocked a National Highway, protesting Kaur’s death. Heavy police deployment was done in the area to control the situation.

In cross-firing five police officials were injured too. Two police officials were shot at while three were injured in other ways in the clashes.

“The accused is a wanted criminal carrying a reward of ₹ 50,000. He escaped from there (Bharatpur village). When our police team reached, they were taken hostage and their weapons were snatched,” Moradabad senior cop Shalabh Mathur said.

Speaking with India Today, Bhullar said, “We want a CBI enquiry to get justice for my wife. We did not use any weapons or fire. Instead, we handed them over to the police.”

“It was a bigger conspiracy. It is a conspiracy of those men who came to attack us,” he said.

He also stated that the perpetrators of the crime were not injured and that they had fled from Kashipur Hospital.
